Defining Ground Improving Material (LOM):
Reducing ground system impedance to limit the level of ground electrode voltage when discharging error fault currents and on time performance of protective elements.
Therefore, as well as selecting suitable material and dimensions for ground electrode to reduce ground system impedance, it is necessary to take measures to improve soil conditions, this is possible by adding Ground Improving Material (LOM) around electrode.
Different Types of LOM
a. Bentonite base LOM:
It refers to materials have been based on bentonite.
b. Carbon base IGM:
It refers to materials have been based on carbon.

LOMR User Guide in Industrial Websites Copper Plate Electrode Installation (Earth Pit)
1. Dig a hole with almost 80 cm or less dimeter and as deep as it is needed.
2. Weld one or two strings of earth wire with suitable cross-section in two points using cadweld method.
3. Fill around the copper plate with (LOMR + water) mixture.
The mixture has to become a soft mud and stick to the surface of copper plate.
4. Place the copper plate vertically at the bottom of the hole.
5. The mixture has to be discharged at the bottom of the well so that as well as suitable compression, it also cover up to 80 cm above the surface of copper plate.
6. Use agricultural soil (vegetable, soft garden soil) without rocks to fill the rest of the hole and mix it with LOMR with 2 to 1 ratio to cover around the wire or fastener compressively (it is better to use LOMR + soil + water mixture outside the well).
7. If it is necessary, install cleanout and weld conductor connected to copper plater to tests busbar and connect it from that point to ground equipment and installations.
Note 1) if surface network or digging rod or earth pit be on the path of aquifers or rain wastewater, its floor has to be coated with cement or cement mixture that the current mixture not to be drained by running water.
Note 2) ground system periodic visiting and testing has been necessary and installing cleanout facilitates periodic testing and investigating.
Clause: agricultural soil refers to a kind of soil with high humidity absorption and suitable electrical resistivity. This type of soil is found on top layers of farms and gardens and it is also called vegetable soil has been made up of clay and leaf mold mixture.
